Founded in 2011 and based in Lexington, Virginia, The Kiernan Gallery showcases the work of emerging artists, primarily photographers, in juried group and invitational solo exhibitions. Jurors have included curators, editors, critics, professors, and seasoned professionals. Each month we present a themed and juried group exhibition as well as a small solo show. Three times per year we hold calls for non-photographic artists to submit their work for a solo exhibition. Visit our blog for features on Director’s and Juror’s Choice winners, interviews with jurors, solo exhibitors, and articles on the business of being an artist.

Twice per year we present pop-up studio salons. An artist’s studio is converted into a gallery of their work for a one-night celebration of their art. Our goal is to combine the energy of an opening reception, the excitement of meeting the artist, and a behind-the-scenes experience of a studio visit into one event. Meeting the artist, spending time in their workspace, and, when possible, seeing how the work was made, creates a connection between patrons and artists that would not exist otherwise. More importantly, these events help build a collecting community for that artist in their own area.

The Kiernan Gallery also publishes Don’t Take Pictures, a biannual print & tablet-ready magazine. Each issue features six artists who have previously exhibited in the Gallery, as well as related articles and a monthly small-edition print sale.
